Dress up, grab the kids and join our Haunted Picnic, the 4th annual Gathering of Community Gardens, coming to Stanford Avalon Community Garden, 11 am to 4 pm, Sunday, Oct. 31. (Last year’s gathering was an educational conference at FarmLab with over 200 attendees; this year is purely social!)
This free event provides local community gardeners and other food producers a chance to meet and bond. This harvest celebration will boast live music from AK & Kalishnikovs, comedian Lalo Lalin, Tamboroso Hermosa Cortez Band, a Dios de los Muertos altar, kid-powered sand sculpture, a carne asada buffet with garden-grown ingredients, garden swap, seed giveaways and lots of ghouls, zombies, vampires and witches.
Stanford Avalon Community Garden is located at 658 E. 111th Place, LA 90059. This 9-acre utility property is located in South LA and is home to 200 immigrant families, most of whom came from the infamous 41st and Alameda garden (aka, South Central Farms) when it closed in 2006.
