My School Compost Rots!!

A little over a year ago, our school participated in a Trash Free Lunch Challenge.  The goal was to teach students to reduce waste in their lunch, and perhaps to make some changes.  When we finish our lunch, we sort it into appropriate buckets, with liquids going in one, recyclable items into another, one for the landfill, and one for compost.  That’s 500 students putting fruit, vegetables, pastas, and breads into a bucket for composting.  The cafeteria workers do the…

Cal Poly Pomona Seeking Partners in a Small Insect Study

Researchers at Cal Poly Pomona are investigating the pollinators and biological control insects on urban farms and gardens in the LA area.  They are looking for ten urban farms or community gardens to collect insects in this summer, with a hopeful expansion of the project in 2016.  They will set-up small insect collecting traps near your cucumbers/squash for 24 hours once in July and once in August. Insects will be brought back to their lab to be identified. If you’re…

Visit La Madera Community Garden

Visit La Madera Community Garden
A little east of the dry San Gabriel riverbed along Ramona Boulevard sits a small plot of land tucked between a dusty fast food chain and small suburban homes and apartments.
